Helping Families Live Their Best Life
I am an Author, Autism Consultant, Speaker, Trainer, and Coach, but my most important job is Mom. I have two children- one of which is on the spectrum. I have dedicated my life to helping families (not just those with ASD) live their best life. My area of expertise is social connection and human behavior.
My book, The Social Diet®, is coming out next month! Please donate as little as $1 to help a family in need.
My son was diagnosed with Autism at the age of two and didn’t talk until he was four. I refused to listen to what other professionals and the literature was telling me. My son would be social if it’s the last thing I do on this earth.
Today my son is 16 years old, attends a regular public high school of 1400 students gets mostly A’s, has a job, has his driving permit, does recreational team sports, and has friends. He is one of the most social children on the Autism Spectrum that I have ever met. Most people would never know that he has autism. I am convinced it was because of the social environment in which I insisted he take part in and was raised with social values. (Good to my website, www.TheSocialDiet.com and look for the “Letter” tab. This is a love letter he wrote to me that will blow you away.!)
With my educational background (Ph.D. in Sociolinguistic) I knew that in order for my autistic son to become social, he would have to be immersed in face to face interactions with people for most of his day. I trained his school staff on how he could learn skills (such as his ABC’s and math) through social means.
I am writing a book, called, “The Social Diet,” for parents of autistic children. It describes why all children- especially children on the Spectrum, need a heavy dose of a social diet throughout their day. It also gives parents a step by step description of “The 7 Essential Ingredients” of “The Social Diet” so that they can begin their own Social Diet for their child. I have already written the first draft but more time is needed for me to finish and get it published and marketed. My goal is to get this into parents’ hands by the beginning of summer but I need your help.
The sooner I have funding, the sooner this book can get into the hands of other parents who are desperate to connect to their autistic children but don’t know how.
I believe that all of us are here on this earth to thrive. That includes even those families who are touched by disabilities such as autism. It doesn’t have to be a horrible thing. My book gives parents hope and shows them how their child can be social despite the autism.
Please help me so my dream of helping other families will come to true. I plan on using this book as a stepping stone to go out and speak publicly to parents, schools, and professionals and show them why we need a treatment model that focuses on social engagement rather than a skill based model which is currently the norm.
Please help fund me so I can help others connect with their children!
